The district manages app install permissions on school-owned iPads. Anyone - staff and students - can download apps on demand from the Self Service portal installed on the iPad.
Students and Staff
District approved applications will be available through the Self Service app on the iPad. An Apple ID is not required to install or use these applications.
1. Find the Self Service app on your iPad and tap it to open it.
2. Once opened you will see a list of applications that are available to your device/person. Your list will look different depending on the school, courses or requests from instructors. You can use your finger to scroll through the applications up and down.
3. Find the application that you are wanting to install and look for the blue "Install" button below. Tap this button to start the install process. In this example we are using the Clips application. You can refresh the listed applications by pulling the page down with your fingers.
4. You should see the icon below the app turn into a spinning circle for a few seconds then flip to a "Reinstall" text. Once this is shown you may exit the Self Service app and the requested application should now be installing on one of your home screens.
Teachers and Staff
Teachers and staff have access to the Apple App Store for downloading apps. This will allow you to install any application to try out or test. You need to sign into the App Store with a personal Apple ID. Your Elkhart Apple ID is not able to install apps from the App Store. If you need a personal Apple ID, you can create one at appleid.apple.com with a non-ECS email address.
To sign in, open the App Store and tap on the blue profile icon in the top right.
If an account is signed in, tap Sign Out. Then, sign in with a personal Apple ID. You will now be able to install apps from the Apple App Store.
