Students are provided a district-issued iPad (case and charger included) as a tool to enhance their learning. Students and parents/guardians are expected to exercise reasonable care of the device. Students are expected to bring the device with them to school every day, ready to use, fully charged, and in the provided case. Below you will find helpful information regarding iPads, accessories, and helpful iPad articles.
Acceptable Use & Safety Policy
Students in possession of an iPad should be using this technology ethically and responsibly at all times. Both parents and students are required to read and sign the district's Acceptable Use & Safety policy. Please see the attached policy, at the end of this article, for more information regarding guidelines and procedures for using technology and the Internet.
iPad & Charger Protection Plans
ECS students will be allotted two free iPad breaks during the school year. Elkhart Community Schools Accidental Damage Protection starts each year on August 1st and ends on July 31st. After the second break, a fee of $325 is applied to the student’s account for each additional break. Broken or damaged chargers will be replaced if the original is returned. Every time an incident occurs, whether it results in a fee or not, an email will be sent to the student and parent/guardian as long as there is an email on file. Lost and stolen accessories/devices are excluded from the free breaks.
New Student iPad
Students new to the district are issued an iPad, case, and charger once fully enrolled with an active ECS account. Technology Services pulls a new student enrollment report from PowerSchool daily. This information will automatically be converted into an iPad ticket to initiate device setup. Once the iPad ticket is received and the device is set up, Technology Services will work diligently to deliver the iPad to the school. *If the student is returning to ECS and already has a device, according to our iPad management system, from their previous enrollment, a device will not be set up.
High School students attending the Elkhart High School main campus, should stop by the Student Service Desk, located across from the cafeteria, with their school-issued ID. If the Student Service Desk isn't open, students can visit the Welcome Center to request the device.
Broken iPad
Inevitably, accidents happen and devices break. Students are afforded two FREE breaks defined by the Accidental Damage Protection Coverage. All breaks exceeding two and iPad damages not covered by Accidental Damage Protection will result in a fee of $325 being applied to the student's account and later invoiced to the parent/guardian. If a student has several breaks, the school building administration may discuss an alternative solution including not allowing the device to travel home with the student.
Elementary, middle school, and freshman students with a broken iPad should notify their teacher and/or school office staff. Depending on the school building, an iPad ticket requesting a replacement iPad is submitted to Technology Services by the designated staff. Once the iPad ticket is received, Technology Services will work diligently to get the device set up and delivered to the school. *To receive the replacement iPad the student needs to turn in the broken device.

Depending on the school building, the designated staff member will submit a ticket to notify Technology Services of the lost device. As soon as the ticket is received, the Tech team will attempt to enable lost mode on the device to help find an approximate location.
